I’m Jeremy Shawn, and I’m thrilled to share with you the story behind Chennai Biriyani—a labor of love inspired by my roots, my passion for cooking, and my desire to bring the authentic taste of Chennai to the heart of Canada.
My Journey – Growing up in the bustling streets of Chennai, biriyani wasn’t just a dish—it was a way of life. From family gatherings to festive celebrations, biriyani was always at the center of our table, tantalizing our taste buds with its rich flavors and aromatic spices. It was this deep-rooted love for biriyani that sparked my culinary journey.
When I moved to Canada in 2016 to pursue my studies, I found myself longing for the comforting taste of home-cooked meals. Drawing upon memories of my childhood and fueled by a newfound passion for cooking, I began experimenting in the kitchen, blending traditional recipes with my own unique twists.
The Birth of Chennai Biriyani – In early 2023, as I settled into life in Ottawa, I couldn’t help but notice a gap in the city’s culinary landscape—a lack of authentic Chennai-style biriyanis. Determined to share the flavors of my hometown with the local community, I decided to take matters into my own hands and introduce Ottawa to the true taste of Chennai Biriyani.
With each dish, I strive to stay true to tradition, sourcing the finest ingredients and carefully balancing flavors to create biriyanis that capture the essence of Chennai’s culinary heritage. The result? A menu that celebrates the bold spices, vibrant colors, and unmistakable aroma of Chennai biriyani.
